LEEP Dual Language Academy works because of our people: parents, students, and a caring, professional staff with a passion for high-quality education in two languages. Our team hails from the United States (including Puerto Rico), Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Spain and Venezuela. We teach and operate in Spanish and English, and LEEP Academy team members also speak Chinese (Mandarin & Cantonese), French, German, and American Sign Language.
Michael Regnier co-founded LEEP Academy. A Brooklyn resident since 2008, Mr. Regnier previously served as Director of Policy & Research for the New York City Charter School Center and Vice President of Organizational Learning & Impact at Turnaround for Children. He graduated with honors from Princeton University and holds an M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago.
Johana Andujar joined LEEP Academy with seven years of leadership experience as a Principal in the Ascend charter school network, where she transformed the flagship elementary school’s culture while strengthening academic results. A Responsive Classroom expert and skilled mentor teacher, she has also served in a leadership role at the Children’s Literacy Initiative in Newark, New Jersey. Ms. Andujar is a graduate of Lehman College with a Master’s degree in Education from Hunter College.
Roberto Gutiérrez founded Latino Educational Equity Partnerships (LEEP) in 2015 with the vision for schools like LEEP Academy. A Brooklyn resident since 2005 and the son of Mexican immigrants, Mr. Gutiérrez is a writer, filmmaker, communications leader, and former executive for leading national charter school networks. He is a graduate of St. Mary's University and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Notre Dame for advancing values of justice and peace in American broadcasting.
Matthew Padilla oversees all school operations. He previously spent four years in school operations roles at the Success Academies charter school network, and has also worked in the technology industry as a Venture for America fellow. He graduated from Wesleyan University with a degree in Russian Studies, and is currently pursuing an MBA at the NYU Stern School of Business.
Graciela Walker is a veteran leader of charter and district schools in New York and New Jersey, including at the Ascend charter network. Her roles have included principal, assistant principal, director of culture, ELL director, and literacy coach, and she brings an expert knowledge of Responsive Classroom as well.
Diana Carrera oversees the Summer & Afterschool Programs at LEEP Dual Language Academy Charter School. A native of Ecuador, Diana is an experienced leader with 9 years of leadership experience in summer and afterschool programs, most recently for the nonprofit group Arts & Athletics. Diana oversees all hiring, safety planning, program planning and daily activities for both programs.
Margarita Cheng helps ensure a strong connection for all families at LEEP Academy and is a founding LEEP Academy parent herself! She was born in Panama, grew up in Venezuela, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Baruch College, CUNY. Ms. Cheng has experience in television and marketing and previously worked as a parent liaison at a high school in Manhattan.
